Leaders of various countries and international organizations are offering recognition of China’s efforts to fight the novel coronavirus outbreak, showing confidence in the ultimate victory over virus and pledging aid and support:

UNITED NATIONS — China’s response to the novel coronavirus outbreak is remarkable and the international community shares a common interest in collaborating to tackle the epidemic, UN Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Mark Lowcock has told Xinhua.

Commenting on the measures China has taken to combat the epidemic, Lowcock lauded the country’s “quite wide agreement” to try to first of all “contain the virus and its spread.”

Lowcock also praised China’s efforts to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus beyond China, adding that China is taking efforts to “buy time to learn more about the virus and how to deal with it.”

BRUSSELS — “The Commission is working closely with China, both at technical and political levels,” European Commissioner for Equality Helena Dalli said in a debate on Wednesday night at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France.

The European Union (EU) has already provided 12 tons of protective equipment to China, said Dalli, adding that this move was “a clear sign of” solidarity.

“We have been in contact with Member States and private companies to identify stocks of protective personal equipment that go beyond EU needs and could be shared with China,” she noted.

The commissioner highlighted that “we need to focus on assisting China,” because “this helps the Chinese … it also decreases the risk for the rest of the world.”

DAR ES SALAAM — “Politicians should stop making misleading statements on the virus that confuse members,” said Tanzanian Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa on Friday.

He said there were 497 Tanzanians in Wuhan, the epicenter of the novel coronavirus, adding that all of them were safe.

Majaliwa said since China was a very important country to Tanzania, politicians should stop giving false information on the outbreak of the virus.

PARIS — “The measures that the Chinese government has taken are the right ones… to dry up the source of the virus and prevent its spread,” French Health Minister Agnes Buzyn told France Inter radio on Friday.

“So, we must continue in this direction in China and elsewhere,” she said, adding that China has taken every possible measure. “No one has ever imagined quarantining cities of tens of millions of people.”

“And that is the only measure that works today,” she said.

MANILA, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) — “We hope for the best and we are confident that China will be able to bounce back from the challenges,” Philippine Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles told a news conference on Friday.

Stressing the significance of supporting China in its fight against the virus, Nograles said China is vital to the global economy as it is a leading trade partner not only for the Philippines, but also many other nations.

“I think the sooner that China overcomes these challenges, the better it is for the rest of the world,” he said.
